Brown Pigmented Lesions

Skin spots, moles, freckles, birthmarks, or age spots are almost always harmless. However it is important to monitor all of your spots or moles, since a sudden or marked change may be dangerous to your health.

Symptoms of Serious Changes

bulletMoles that are larger than a pencil eraser, asymmetrical, irregularly shaped, or contain shades of red, blue, white, or black.
bulletSkin tags (small skin "stalks" or flap-like growths usually on the neck, armpits, upper trunk, and body folds) that become red and inflamed.
bulletYellow, brown, or black growths on face, chest, shoulders, and back that are slightly raised, waxy, or gritty, and may be more than an inch in diameter

Treatment

If your physician identifies your spots as bengin, Lasers can be used to remove brown spots by directing a pure green light at the skin.  This selectively removes brown while leaving the rest of the skin alone.

In most cases, 1 or 2 sessions (one month) apart are needed.  The treatment needs no anesthesia, takes just a few minutes, and is almost painless.  Afterward, skin looks bruised and reddish for 3-7 days, though covering with makeup is permitted.

A consultation is needed for us to tell whether laser is right for you.  Raised spots (like skin tags, keratoses, and moles) are best treated by other means, such as the electric needle. Please make an appointment for a full consultation.
